Implementation Sites describe their pd|hub experience in Times Higher Education
Date Posted: Thursday, January 16, 2025In the December 17 issue of Times Higher Education, members of the inaugural cohort of pd|hub Collections Implementation Sites published an article, “Joining hands across institutions makes light work”. The piece highlights their experiences as part of a pd|hub community of practice implementing one of the models from the pd|hub Collection, Foundations of Career Exploration for PhD Scientists. This article eloquently showcases the value of pd|hub’s communities of practice in fostering collaborations and supporting career practitioners in delivering impactful programming.
The article was co-authored by Karena Nguyen (Georgia Institute of Technology), Paola Cepeda (Washington University in St. Louis and Fellow of the pd|hub Collection, Foundations of Career Exploration for PhD Scientists), Anne-Sophie Bohrer (University of Michigan, formerly at University of Wisconsin-Madison), and Matthew Warner (North Dakota State University). The authors emphasize the importance of supporting career exploration for graduate students and postdocs, and describe the PhD Career Ladder Program (PCLP), developed at Stony Brook University and featured in this pd|hub Collection as the peer-facilitated model. They then share the benefits of leveraging an established model like PCLP via the pd|hub Collections as a way to reduce program development time and gain support as pd|hub Implementation Sites. In particular, they describe their pd|hub Community of Practice as a vehicle for collaborating across institutions, learning through their peers’ implementation experiences, and sharing strategies for greater engagement and success at their home institutions–all while saving time and resources.
With gratitude for the authors for sharing their story, we celebrate their implementation successes and the broader impact of this initiative on the professional development of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
